परम साध्य क्या है? उसका परम साधन क्या है ? उसका साधक कैसा होता है ?
शिव पद की प्राप्ति ही साध्य है | उनकी सेवा साधन है | उनके प्रसादसे जो नित्य नैमित्तिक आदि फलोंकी औरसे निःस्पृह होता है, वही साधक है |
वेदोक्त कर्म का अनुष्ठान करके उसके महान फल को भगवान शिव के चरणों में समर्पित कर देना परमेश्वर पद की प्राप्ति है |
कान से भगवान के नाम-गुण और लीलाओं का श्रवण, वाणी द्वारा उनका कीर्तन तथा मन के द्वारा उनका मनन - यह तीन महान साधन माने गए है |
भगवान शंकर की पूजा, उनके नाम का जप तथा उनके गुण, रूप, विलास और नामों का युक्तिपरायण चित (मन) द्वारा जो निरंतर चिंतन होता है उसे मनन कहा गया है |
भगवान के प्रताप, गुण, रूप, विलास और नाम को प्रकट करनेवाले संगीत, वेदवाक्य या भाषा के द्वारा अनुरागपूर्वक उनकी स्तुति को कीर्तन कहा गया है |
जैसे स्त्री क्रीड़ामें मनकी आसक्ति होती है, वैसे ही किसी कारण से किसी स्थान में शिवविषयक वाणिओंमे श्रवणेंद्रियकी आसक्ति ही जगत में श्रवण कहा गया है |
सर्वप्रथम सज्जनों की संगति से
श्रवण सिद्ध होता है, बादमे
शिवजी का कीर्तन दॄढ़
होता है और अन्तमे
सभी साधनो में श्रेष्ठ शंकरविषयक
मनन उत्पन्न होता है |
What is the ultimate goal? What is the ultimate means to achieve it? What kind of practitioner is required for it?
The goal is to achieve the state of Shiva. Serving him is the means. One who is indifferent to the fruits of his actions, which are bestowed by Shiva, is a true seeker.
The attainment of the state of Shiva is achieved by performing Vedic rituals and then offering their great fruits at the feet of Lord Shiva.
The three great means are: listening to the names, qualities, and pastimes of God with the ears; singing his praises with the voice; and meditating on him in the mind.
Meditation is the constant contemplation of the qualities, form, playfulness, and names of Lord Shiva, performed by a thoughtful mind.
Singing the praises of God with music, Vedic verses, or language that reveals his power, qualities, form, playfulness, and names is called kirtan.
Just as the mind is attached to sexual play, so in the world, attachment of the sense of hearing to words about Shiva is called listening.
First, listening is accomplished through the company of good people; then, singing the praises of Shiva becomes firm; and finally, the best of all means, meditation on Shiva, arises.
