How to Live, Act, and Stay Detached

A Journey Beyond Recognition

Until you become a name, your choices don’t seem to matter.

But pause, why do you want to become a name at all?

Isn’t life supposed to be simple?

We are born, we live, and we leave. So, why this chase for identity, recognition, applause?

But again, why should the world know you?

Shouldn’t we simply act, without worrying about what others think, just doing something good for humanity, or simply as our karma?

This eternal wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, Verse 47) reminds us:

Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana, Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma Te Sangostvakarmani.

Meaning:

You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits thereof. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.

Yet another question arises:

If I do not express myself, if I do not shout about what I am doing, how will the world know?

How will I know if my work is even making a difference?

The answer is subtle:

Shout when it serves the karma, when it helps it reach the right people.

Stay silent when shouting is just serving your ego.

The Bhagavad Gita guides again in Chapter 3, Verse 19:

Tasmad asaktah satatam karyam karma samachara, Asakto hy acharan karma param apnoti purushah.

Meaning:

Therefore, without attachment, perform always the work that has to be done. for the man who performs work without attachment attains the Supreme.

So, How Should You Live in This World?

  • Grow, but not to prove anything to the world.
  • Express, but only to serve a purpose greater than yourself.
  • Shout, if shouting is needed to amplify your good work.
  • Stay silent, if the shouting is just for self-glorification.
  • Do your Karma, with full energy.
  • Let go of the results, knowing that karma is the true reward.

Karma is the Music; you are Just the Flute.

Act as if you are an instrument in the hands of something larger.

Let the world listen to the music, but do not claim it as your own.

At the end of the day, the journey is not about being known by the world.

It is about knowing yourself, expressing yourself, and letting life flow through you.

The rest, the name, the fame, the recognition will come or not come.

It doesn’t change the truth of who you are.
